Thusharagiri Waterfalls Kozhikode

Thusharagiri waterfalls lie in the Western Ghats in Kozhikode district. The word meaning of Thusharagiri is ‘snow covered mountains’. The whole area looks like snow capped, hence it is called so. The streams that originate from these Ghats meet to form the Chalippuzha River. From here the river parts into three waterfalls to form the Thusharagiri waterfall. The highest of the three waterfalls called as the Thenpara fall falls from a height of 75 m. It lies near Kodencherry in Calicut.

This is a famous tourist destination. Those who like adventurous activities can come here to do trekking and rock climbing. The main activity is trekking as this place offers endless opportunity for trekking and rock climbing. One can trek from Thusharagiri and reach Vythiri in Wayanad district. The trekkers start early in the morning from the second waterfall and travel through the dense forests. On the way one can see the wide species of birds and animals. The trekkers can reach Vythiri by evening.

There are 5 waterfalls mainly, out of which in a day it is possible to cover only 3 waterfalls. In order to trek all the 5 waterfalls it is necessary to stay there at night which is a dangerous and risky decision. Unexpected waterfalls may happen at any time and it would be difficult for one to escape from that. Trekking to those two waterfalls is also restricted as those areas are prone to wild animals. The trekkers are requested to take food along with them while they start their journey. The best time to visit this place is during the months between September and November.
