Syro-Malankara Catholic Major Archeparchy of Trivandrum

The Syro-Malankara Catholic Major Archeparchy of Trivandrum is a Major Archdiocese of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church in Trivandrum, India. Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, the Major Archbishop-Catholicos of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, presided over the Major Archdiocese as of 2014. The seat is at St. Mary’s Malankara Syrian Catholic Cathedral, Pattom, Trivandrum.


The Archeparchy of Trivandrum was erected in 1932. Its suffragan eparchies and exarchies are those of Marthandom, Mavelikara, Pathanamthitta, and Exarchate of the United States.


Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis, Major Archbishop of Trivandrum and Catholicos of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, was appointed Metropolitan of Trivandrum in 2007. Auxiliary Bishops Aboon Mor Samuel Irenios Kattukallil and Aboon Mor Thomas Antonios Valiyavilayil, O.I.C. were appointed in 2010.


In 2008 the archeparchy had an estimated 250,477 faithful, in 104 parishes, with 190 diocesan priests, 64 religious priests, 142 religious brothers, 721 religious sisters, and 89 seminarians.

Kerala Road Transport Corporation buses operates ordinary, fast, super fast and Volvo buses from Trivandrum to all cities in Kerala and many cities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Private bus operators run deluxe tourist buses from Trivandrum to Bangalore, Chennai and Kozhikode daily. The charge is about Rs 3 – Rs 4 per km.
Trivandrum International airport is just 10 km away from the heart of the city. The airport is well linked with all major air terminals in India and many cities abroad. Direct flights are available from Trivandrum to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. Trivandrum is connected to Singapore, Colombo, Muscat, Saudi and many other gulf countries. Pre-paid taxi services are available from airport to other places in city. The charges are about Rs 15 per km.

Trivandrum railway station is a major railway junction in South India. Many train services originates from here. It is connected to all parts of India by direct train services, including Jammu, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Howrah and Hyderabad.
