Pothundi Dam, Tourist destinations in Palakkad

Pothundy Dam is situated en route to Neilliyampathy about 8 km from Nenmara. It is built across Meenachadypuzha and Padipuzha, which are tributaries of Ayalar River, which in turn enriches Bharatapuzha. Built in 19th century, the dam is known for its unusual way of construction. Instead of the usual concrete core, the dam is constructed with a mixture of molasses and quicklime.

The picture perfect location of the Pothundy dam, surrounded by mountains, draws a lot of visitors and the dam is the major water source for people in Chittur Taluk.

The dam is located about 8 km from Nemmara and 42 km from Palakkad; Nelliampathi, around 17 km away, is known for its Nemmara Vallengi Vela festival.The Pothundy dam is a nice site for tourists, covered with mountains. The dam is one of the major water sources for agricultural and drinking in the chittur taluk. This dam is the main site for the Malayalam film Vinodayathra.
