Peermade Idukki Tourist Places

Peermede is a hill station situated in Idukki district and is at a height of about 915 m above sea level. This hill station was the resting place of the Travancore Maharajas. The area is greenery with the presence of tea, coffee, rubber and eucalyptus plantation together with the pine forests. The word meaning of Peermede is ‘The hill of Peer’. Peermede got its name from the Sufi saint Peer Mohammed who was an associate of the rulers. Many tourists visit this hill station for doing trekking and also to enjoy the scenic beauty. One can find wild animals like tigers, wild bear etc in this hill station. As the weather here is cool throughout, tourists can visit this place at any time of the year.

Some tourist attractions here include the Velamkanni Matha Church, flower garden and the waterfalls. Some of the most attractive waterfalls are Meloram, Nallathanni, Panchalimedu and Valanjamkanam. The interesting activities done by the people are cycling and horse riding besides some adventure sports like paragliding and trekking. Another attraction Thrissanku hills is a must see which is just 4 kms from here.  The view of the sunrise and sunset from here is amazing.
