Mankayam Wildlife Sanctuary

Mankayam is located in the Nedumangad Taluk of Thiruvananthapuram District. The River called Mankayam River flows through this area. The soil here is very fertile and there is a wide variety of flora. The forest vegetation is seen on the river banks and the forest types include evergreen, semi evergreen etc. A big waterfall in this area is the Kalakkayam Waterfall which is covered by rocky areas.

Ecotourism Activities

There are a lot of picturesque spots here and trekking can also be done. There is the ecotourism zone which is covered by variety of forest types. It extends from Mankayam to Kurisadi. An interesting place for bathing is the Kurisadi Ghat.

Kalakkayam-Kurisadi Falls

An attractive waterfall in this place is the Kalakkayam-Kurisadi falls and the visitors are not allowed to go near it.
Trekking of all types such as soft, medium and adventure trekking are possible. Some of the trekking packages are Interior Area Treks which is a half day trek in which the tourists can view the Ayampara Waterfalls. Next is the adventure Trekking which is a one day trek through the valleys, grasslands and the forests.

In this peak one can find the endangered species Nilgiri tahr. There will be a guide to guide the tourists. There are several view points where the tourists can stay and enjoy the beauty of the nature and wildlife.
