Pavakka Mezhukkupuratti

Bitter gourds are very low in calories but dense with precious nutrients. It is an excellent source of vitamins B1, B2, and B3, C, magnesium, folate, zinc, phosphorus, manganese, and has high dietary fiber. It is rich in iron, contains twice the beta-carotene of broccoli, twice the calcium of spinach, and twice the potassium of a banana.

Bitter Gourd / Karela/ Pavakka fry is quick and easy side dish and goes well with rice and veg curries. Try this crispy and spicy pavakka fry, you will surely love it.

Ingredients:

  • Pavakka (Bitter Gourd) : 2 nos

  • Onion (Large) – 1 no

  • Green Chillies – 2 nos (Cut legth wise at the bottom only)

  • Coconut slices – 1/2 cup

  • Oil – 4 tbsp

  • Turmeric Powder (optional) – 1/4 tsp

  • Salt – as required

Method:

Cut Pavakka length wise. Slice the onions thin.

Pour oil into a hard bottomed pan and add Pavakka and Onion slices, along with green chillies and coconut slices.

Add salt and turmeric powder. Cook covered on low flame for about 2 minutes.

Open the lid and cook on low flame, for another 5-6 minutes, until the rawness of the vegetable disappears.

Pavakka Mezhukkupuratti is ready to serve with Rice.
