Monisha Unni was and always will be one of most favorite actresses of Malayali audience. Today (Dec 5th) is the 22nd death anniversary of Monisha. The beautiful actress left this world, on the same day in 1992 due to a car accident at the age of 21. Monisha’s sudden death was an extremely shocking experience for the movie industry and fans. She had just completed shooting for Cheppadividya before the tragedy happened. Monisha has acted in 24 movies, in a career span of 6 years. She has won the National Film Award for Best Actress, at the age of 16, for her performance in the debut movie Nakhakshathangal. She is the youngest winner of the prestigious award.
Monisha, who lived with her parents in Bangalore, had studied in
Bangalore, at St. Charles High School, later Bishop Cotton Girl’s
School, and Mount Carmel College.
The actress made a mark in the movie industry with her exuberant screen presence and extraordinary acting skills. She has shared screen with the eminent personalities of Malayalam and Tamil movie industries, including Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Murali, Karthik, Sharath Kumar etc. The actress last appeared in the Tamil movie Moondravathu Kann. Monisha was the daughter of industrialist Narayanan Unni and actress-dancer Sreedevi Unni. She has an elder brother Sajith Unni. Her mother, Sreedevi Unni is a familiar face for Malayali audience and has acted in some popular movies including Neelathamara, Ordinary, Sringara Velan etc. Every year, her family and close friends organise a cultural event in Bangalore, in memory of Monisha.
