Bible Tower in Thrissur, Kerala

The Bible Tower, situated in Thrissur, Kerala is the tallest church tower in Asia. It can be seen from anywhere in the Thrissur town. The tower, which is about 260 feet tall, was inaugurated on January 7, 2007. His Excellency Most Reverend Dr Pedro Lopez Quintana dedicated the Bible tower for World Peace.

The foundation stone of the Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Dolours was laid on 21 December 1929, by Mar Francis Vazhappilly, the Late Bishop of Thrissur. Another bell tower in the back of the church reaches 79.248 meters (260 feet). Renowned artists of the whole India have contributed their works in the Bible Tower. It is the first known Christian art gallery in Kerala.

A passenger lift is available up to 48.768 meters (160 feet), where a viewers’ platform has been made to accommodate up to 250 people. The viewers have to climb the steps from there to the top of the tower, has facilities for viewing the city over an area of 18 kilometers. The building has been certified as earthquake-proof by officials of the Geology Department of India.

Bible Tower is well known for its height, it stands in 260 feet height and the highest church tower in India , the wooden door is in scripted with Bible words which revels the whole life of Jesus and the life of the Early Church in different materials. The infancy of Jesus is represented in Wooden Carvings.

The healing of the sick is depicted in Stain Glass. The miracles of Jesus is represented in Brass Etching is shown There is an Oil Painting  which tells The passion of Christ. The resurrection of Jesus is depicted in bright Canvas, and mural paintings on the life of St. Thomas.

Trichur is easily accessible by roads, as the place is well connected to all major cities as well as villages by a wide network of roads. Along with that, many highways also pass through this place. To reach Trichur from Thiruvananthapuram (289 km), you will have to take NH47, via Kollam, Alappuzha, Shertallai, Arur, Ernakulam, Aluva and Chalakudi. KSRTC also runs buses to Thrissur from Thiruvananthapuram, every 15 mins.

The international airport that lies nearest to Trichur is situated at Cochin, approximately 55 kilometers away. GoAir, Jet Airways, and Kingfisher Airlines fly direct flights from Cochin to Bangalore. Apart from that, the airport is well connected with Delhi, Mumbai, Trivandrum, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Agatti, Calicut, Goa, and Mangalore as well. The next nearest airport is at Kozhikode, around 80 kilometers from Trichur.
Railway Station:
Trichur station forms an important rail link in Kerala. It lies on the main railway line that connects the state with the rest of India. Many trains ply at this station, linking it with the key cities of the country. Thrissur is connected to Thiruvananthapuram and Delhi by Kerala Express, Chennai by Guruvayur Express, Bangalore by Bangalore-Kanyakumari Express and Mumbai by Trivandrum Express.
