Art Gallery And Krishna Menon Museum, Kozhikode

Art Gallery and Krishna Menon Museum is one of the major attractions in Kozhikode.
It is situated at the hilltop in East Hill, Which is 5 Kilometers away from the
heart of the city of Kozhikode and 6 kilometers from the Kozhikode Railway
station. An art gallery is started functioning in the year 1975 under the
Department of Museums and zoos. In the next year, a museum was also opened in
the name of Sri.V.K.Krishna Menon (1895-1974), a native of Kozhikode and one of
the great Indian leaders and former Defence Minister of India.

Art Gallery is the major attraction in the institution. There are 66
paintings exhibited in two galleries. The painting section includes the
original Paintings of Raja Ravi varma, Raja Raja varma, Bengal paintings, Mural
paintings, Mughal-Rajastan paintings, Chinese-Tibeten Paintings, contemporary
paintings,etc. A few Sculptures in Ivoryand wood are also exhibited in the art
gallery. In the Krishna menon Museum, Some of the personnel belongings and
collections of Sri.V.K.Krishna Menon are exhibited.

The Museum Building has a glorious past. During the British rule,the
majestic building was the official Bungalow of the Malabar collectors. William
Logan, the author of Malabar Manual was one among them who resided here.
